GATORS AND THE SMARTBOARD

Mrs. Garcia's Gators use the SmartBoard in their class for math warm-ups each day,
and to introduce new skills or practice familiar ones.
It is also used for problem solving, counting coins, and discovering number patterns on the hundred's grid.
They also use the SmartBoard in other areas as well such as writing.

FLL OFF TO COMPETITION!

First Lego League, or FLL, introduces 9-14 year old students to real-world engineering
challenges by building LEGO-based robots to complete tasks on a thematic playing surface.
FLL teams, guided by their imaginations and adult coaches, discover exciting career
possibilities and, through the process, learn to make positive contributions to society.

Brain Poppin' in Kindergarten

Students in Mrs. Rodgers' class used Brain Pop Jr. to learn about magnets.

When it was quiz time, students used the Turning Points polling system to answer the questions.
Mrs. Rodgers was able to see when everyone had responded...looks like there's only one left.

The response graph told her which answer the majority of the class picked.
She can also tell if there were other answers chosen.

Now to answer the question based on student responses.

Pretty cool way to learn about science...way to go Kinder!!!!

DEAR MRS. SHOGAN...

Mrs. Shogan's Salamanders worked on their letter writing skills in the computer lab this week.
Using www.ABCya.com, they were able to let Mrs. Shogan know what they plan to be for Halloween. Sounds like some awesome costumes this year!

WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABOUT COLUMBUS?

CANIZALES - 2ND GRADE
Mrs. Canizales' Cuddly Bears used PebbleGo to learn a little more
about the explorer credited with the discovery of America.

Wait, is there a difference between explore and discover? These students found out there was.
They used the dictionary feature of Kids Search to look up the definitions...

and then put the words and their definitions in Microsoft Word.
 Whew...technology everywhere!!!

LET'S DISCUSS IT

Fifth graders LOVE to talk...even when they're doing it in an online forum!
In Mrs. Queton's class, students have been reading "The Witch of Blackbird Pond" and used a Moodle Forum to share their thoughts about the book.  Not only does this keep the noise level down, but it allows students to practice their writing as well.

SCIENCE WITH BARTHOLOMEW'S BATS

Mrs. Bartholomew brought her Bats in to work on a WebQuest in STEMScopes, a science-based curriculum used by RRISD and created by Rice University.
A WebQuest takes the students on an adventure through a number of predetermined websites to seek out information.  They had a lot of fun tracking down their answers!

YES, IT IS ALL ABOUT ME!

Mrs. Garcia's Gators visited the computer lab and used Kid Pix to create pictorial representations of themselves.  What a great way to show the individuality of each student!
These are some examples of finished products.
